The wood is protected with food grade cutting board oil so they are safe to be in the kitchen on the fridge. I personally process the wood from raw lumber into the finished product at my woodshop in Oklahoma. The lower peninsula is about 1 3/8 inches tall and the upper peninsula is about 1.75 inches long.

The magnets themselves are rare earth magnets and hold incredibly tightly -- I tested with the magnets in the pictures, and a single one will hold 5 pages of printer paper without moving around when the fridge door is opened and shut quickly. The pair would obviously hold substantially more.

The wood part of the magnets is made from solid cherry wood. After the wood comes out of the kiln at the sawmill, I do every step of the processing myself; while it is labor intensive to process solid cherry into wood that can be laser cut, the effort is definitely worth it. The appearance of a solid hardwood is far better than something like birch plywood or alder wood. Additionally, the cherry wood is sourced from a sawmill in western Michigan that produces lumber exclusively using street trees that have been removed due to construction or storm damage. I strongly believe in what they do and my dream is to open a similar operation myself!
