This keychain makes for a wonderful personalized gift! I can engrave your voice, your child's heartbeat, or even your favorite song on tough cherry hardwood that is sustainably sourced from Missouri street trees.

One example engraving is my cat's heartbeat, and the other is from me playing an out-of-tune rendition of one of Bach's cello suites on a violin. It didn't sound good but the engraving looks nice! Besides a music recording or heartbeat, it could be a recording of a person speaking as well. The possibilities are endless! The back of the keychain can also be engraved with text or numbers, such as the words spoken in the recording, a birthdate, coordinates, or any other text or numbers.

The wood part of the keychain measures approximately 2.25" by 0.75". The cherry wood is sourced from street trees in the western Michigan area that have been removed due to construction or storm damage -- not their timber value. After I pick out the wood at the sawmill, I personally process it through a long series of planing and sawing steps, and I finally laser cut it and apply a hand-rubbed oil finish.

Because wood is a natural material, there is some variation in the wood grain and color therefore no two keychains will ever be exactly alike. Several examples are shown to illustrate some differences you might see in the cherry wood grain.

**How to send me the soundwave for engraving**

I can engrave the image of the sound wave if you'd like, or you can send me the recording to convert for you. Please note, a link to YouTube or an online music streaming service does not work -- if I am going to be converting it, you MUST send me an actual file, not a link. **Frequently Asked Questions**

--Can the engraved soundwave be converted back into audio with an app?

Unfortunately no it cannot. The amount of detail needed is far finer than can be engraved onto a wood keychain even for a one second long recording. Think about how large a vinyl record has to be, and despite that size the grooves are so small that they are barely visible. A good solution is to have the words spoken in the recording engraved on the back, or even have the URL of a recording engraved on the back.

--How can I send the audio file to you?

An email to soundwave.eastonwoodworks [!at] gmail.com is the best way to send a recording to me. If you would like to send the already converted soundwave image, it can be sent in a message to me via Etsy.

--Can you engrave a song from a YouTube video or a link to a music website?

I would be happy to engrave a song, but only if you send me the recording. It is copyright infringement if I source it myself because it is implying that I own commercial rights to the music, which I do not. You can send me a copy of the song if you own an mp3 of it, or you can record it via an app on a smartphone and send that instead.

--Is there a maximum recording length that can be engraved?

Any length of recording can be used. The thing to remember though is that the longer the recording is, the less visual 'movement' there is in the recording. That is especially important for spoken words; if a short phrase is spoken, the cadence of the speech is clearly visible and you can almost 'hear' it just by looking at it (if you know what is being said of course)

--Can the keychain be made with darker wood, or a smaller keychain?
