This keychain would be a perfect gift for someone that owns a lake house! It would also be a great way to label the lake house keys, and would even be a great special touch for the keys if you rent out a cottage.

I can make this keychain with any lake. Seriously, any lake. I use OpenStreetMap.org for the lake outline data, so if it is on a map I can make it. I can even make a keychain with a farm pond outline if you can provide an aerial photograph of the pond. The writing can be similarly customized. The photos show a couple of ideas for if you own a lake house. Another idea is to commemorate a wedding, and the text could be the bride and groom's names and the year. Even something whimsical like "Wish I were fishing at Big Star Lake!" would be doable.

If you like the aesthetic of the example keychains, you can write a note to me detailing the lake and engraving when purchasing and I will use my best judgement when arranging the lake outline and the text. In order to make sure the lake is correct, I need to know the name of the lake and the nearest city and the state. There are many lakes with the same name, even in the same state, so having the nearest city ensures that the outline is the right one.

My biggest priority is making sure that what you purchase is exactly what you are looking for, so please feel free to message me with your ideas and I'd be happy to draw up the design for you. The wood measures approximately 2.25 by 1.25 inches. The cherry wood is sourced from street trees in the St. Louis area that have been removed due to construction or storm damage -- not their timber value. After I pick out the wood at the sawmill, I personally process it through a long series of planing and sawing steps, and I finally laser cut it and apply a food-safe hand-rubbed oil finish.

Because wood is a natural material, there is some variation in the wood grain and color therefore no two keychains will ever be exactly alike. Several are shown in the pictures to illustrate possible different color and wood grain combinations you might see.

Utilizing yard trees for wood is one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable ways to source lumber as it does not contribute to deforestation or environmental destruction. It also gives a positive outcome for trees that are lost due to disease, pests, or construction, and gives additional positive value to the urban forest.
