This cherry wood keychain is perfect for someone from Manhattan! Whether as a gift to remind a dear friend of home, or for your personal keyring to celebrate your move to a new and exciting city, it is striking in appearance and is sure to attract comments when people see it! The map is burned into the wood so it will not wear off like might happen with ink or paint.

The keychain is by default focused on lower Manhattan (without a star) but I'd be happy to focus on another part of the city if you prefer it. The cut out can be a star like shown or can be a heart, and it can be located anywhere that you'd like. My biggest priority is to make sure that you are ordering something that you think is perfect; if you would prefer to see the design before ordering, please feel free to contact me and I'd be happy to draw it up for you.

When ordering, please let me know the approximate area that you'd like the map to show if you'd prefer another region of the city than lower Manhattan. Also please be clear about the cutout location and shape if you'd like one personalized in that manner.

The wood part measures 2 by 1 inches. The cherry wood is sourced from street trees in the western Michigan area that have been removed due to construction or storm damage -- not their timber value. After I pick out the wood at the sawmill, I personally process it through a long series of planing and sawing steps, and I finally laser cut it and apply a hand-rubbed oil finish.

Because wood is a natural material, there is some variation in the wood grain and color therefore no two keychains will ever be exactly alike. Several examples are shown to illustrate some differences you might see in the cherry wood grain.

Utilizing yard trees for wood is one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable ways to source lumber as it does not contribute to deforestation or environmental destruction. It also gives a positive outcome for trees that are lost due to disease, pests, or construction, and gives additional positive value to the urban forest.
