This is a necklace that is custom made out of urban walnut wood. The wood is sourced from a sawmill in western Michigan that produces lumber exclusively using street trees that have been removed due to construction or storm damage. I strongly believe in what they do and my dream is to open a similar operation myself!
The necklace charm measures approximately 2 inches by 3/8 inch. The braille is raised and is readily felt, it should be noted though that the best results are from keeping the number of characters as small as possible, and under 10 is best. I can do larger numbers but the legibility will be lessened.
The wood is protected with food grade mineral oil which can be reapplied at any point if the wood looks dry or dirty.
The necklace comes by default in a gift box as shown in the last picture. It can also be upgraded to an additional necklace charm which gives it a unique appearance reminiscent of a tassle, which I've been told is very stylish.

Utilizing yard trees for wood is one of the most eco-friendly and sustainable ways to source lumber as it does not contribute to deforestation or environmental destruction. It also gives a positive outcome for trees that are lost due to disease, pests, or construction, and gives additional positive value to the urban forest. Making a conscious decision to purchase products made from urban wood is a way of showing support for the urban forest and local craftsman.

I got this for my daughters boyfriend as a graduation gift and he loved it. The braille was a little hard for him to feel, but he was able to tell what it said. Even though I was a little surprised, it showed up just in time for their graduation party.

Arrived a week earlier than expected which was pleasant. The only down side was that t was written from bottom to the top. And the full stop was before the first letter. I'm not sure in braille what that full stop means, but a little sore that it was spelled from bottom to top. Otherwise, its amazing. Quality is amazing. The wood's got a beautiful colour and gorgeously crafted. 4/5 would recommend. I low key wish it was spelled from top to bottom but hey, Im still quite satisfied. Thanks.
